Basic research in cardiology style - Error

Hallo everybody,

I just wanted to submit by paper to the Basic research in cardiology journal using the corresponding ZOTERO style. I received response from the editorial board, that citation styling is not okay.

Authors need to be in alphabetical order, do not include issues of cited journal and do not used et al. All not the case in style.
I cannot fix it by myself. Does anyone have a alternative style for me?

Best regards
  • At the moment the style for 'Basic research in cardiology' is marked as same as 'Springer Basic (numeric, brackets)'. Maybe we just have to change that to 'Springer Basic (numeric, brackets, no "et al.")'? How does this style look like? BTW besides the et al. everything should be fine before as well; or am I mistaking something?
  • That's not alphabetical
  • What does alphabetical means here exactly? I found the instruction "Reference list entries should be alphabetized by the last names of the first author of each work and numbered consecutively." from the documenation: http://www.springer.com/medicine/cardiology/journal/395?detailsPage=pltci_1752910
  • that the numbers aren't by order of appearance (like in most numerical styles) but alphabetical, but still numbered. That means, e.g., if the first citation is to "Smith, Adam" it may be [27].
  • Okay, sorry I was not checking careful enough.

@bretzeljoe: I modified the ordering, you can try this adapted style. Just download it and install the style.

@adamsmith: I am not sure how Springer handles the ordering in numeric styles in general. In one documentation it says: "The reference list should be alphabetical (even if reference numbers are used)." But in the other documentation it says: "Entries in the list must be listed alphabetically except in the numbered system of sequential citation." Any ideas?
  • Hallo,
I tried the basic springer style and it was not alphabetic as mentioned. I finally used the "anticancer research" style and
manually edited the rest yesterday :-(

I but know I downloaded the new style and it works perfectly.
I highly recommend to include it to the offical style repository.

By the way. It think it would be benefical to include some more serching options to the style repository like: alphabetical, show: et al. (yes or no), show: issue numer (yes or no).

I think then this tread can be closed. Thanks a lot everyone.
  • @zuphilip--yeah, unfortunately there are lots of problems with Springers "unified" journal styles. They actually do both. Most numerical journals are sequential but some are alphabetical like the cardiology style here.
  • Okay, then I will prepare a commit for a new style as indicated in the gist which would then be assigned to this special journal title.
  • The style is now fixed. The updated version will appear on the repository within 30mins (check the timestamp).Update your copy of the style by clicking "Update Now" in the Geeral tab of the Zoter preferences.

Styles also update automatically within 24hs for Zoter 4.0+
In an existing document, you may haveto switchto a different style and back for the changes to take effect one the style is updated.
Any further problems please let us know & hanks for repoting

Also, of course, thanks to zuphilip, who did the actual work on this.
