Locking entries in the Zotero library

I am looking at the utility of providing students taking a course of mine with their reading lists/bibliographic material on URL memory stick as Zotero libraries with Firefox portable edition. This would replace existing printed lists of references, and give the students the flexibility to develop and expand on any initial reference set by themselves. However, I would want to avoid the students deleting key references (either accidentally or out of mischief). Is it possible in Zotero to protect individual Library entries against deletion?

There is currently no way to lock items. With that said you could post a Zotero enabled "smart syllabus" to make it as easy as possible for students to reacquire the metadata for your readings.
