Importing Bibtex citation

I am just starting to use zotero.

When i go to a page like: http://csdl2.computer.org/persagen/DLAbsToc.jsp?resourcePath=/dl/mags/co/&toc=comp/mags/co/2008/08/mco08toc.xml&DOI=10.1109/MC.2008.288

I want to create an entry which will contain the pdf, with the correct citation info as well as giving me a link to site.

I can do this by creating a snapshot of the page then attaching the pdf of the paper to it. The issue i'm then having is how do i add the citation info, which is provided in several formats.

So, what i'm bascially asking is how do i get information into the "info" section of an entry without having to retype it.

Is there a better way of doing what i want to do?

Any feedback appreciated.
  • You should get a Zotero icon in the address bar on that page due to Zotero's Embedded RDF translator and the META elements on the site, but the data it produces wouldn't be great.

The metadata provided by the export formats should be more comprehensive and cleaner, but until Zotero has an in-content translator, you'd have to save the BibTeX to a text file with a .bib extension, drag it back into Firefox, and use the URL bar icon to create an item.

Either way, you could then drag the PDF link onto the created item to attach the PDF.

Obviously, a dedicated translator would be better. Someone actually posted a Computer Society translator to the dev list that uses the BibTeX records, but it looks like it wasn't ever added to Zotero. If you want to try it, you could install it via Scaffold and let us know how it works.
  • Ok. So i have to save the bibtex file and then open it in firefox, not ideal, but at least i can do that. Cheers.
