Online version of zotero?

I don't understand how the online version of Zotero works. I have been working regularly with the downloaded version on my laptop. When I login to the online version I find an empty library. Is it possible to sync the library of the online version with the downloaded version on my laptop? Or are these two different "libraries"? Thank you for your help.
