Automatic tags do not appear

Hi all

I am just beginning with zotero. I installed the standalone version (because working with linux). I began to add references and pdfs in my collection, it works fine. However automatic tags do not always appear (the "add automatically" option is selected in the "preferences"). It seems to depend on the journal editor. It works with AIP (I tried with an article from the journal of chemical physics) and Springer (test with an article from the Journal of Molecular Modeling) but it fails with ACS (JACS, J. Physical Chemistry A), Elsevier (Chemical Physics Letters), RSC. It's a pitty since tags are very useful to perform a search...

Could anyone tell me how to fix this?

Thank you

Isabelle
  • We try to grab tags where they're readily available, but may be that's not the case for all pages you're looking at - we'd need some sample URLs where you're not getting tags to say for sure.
  • Thank you for your quick reply.

    Here are some URLs for which it doesn't work. The corresponding journals are very popular ones in physical chemistry. That's why I'm very surprised about the lacks of tags (aren't they simply the keywords?)

  • ACS and RSC don't have keywords, neither on the page, nor in the metadata, so there aren't any tags we could add automatically.

    For the Wiley journal I do get keywords-have you double checked import on that one?
  • It's a real pitty for the journals of the Americal Chemical Society and of the Royal Society of Chemistry. I tried only with one journal of each of the editors. Maybe it is different with others journals. So if I understood well, the required data are not in the web page nor in the metadata, so zotero cannot get them (however these journals do use keywords, indeed they always ask us to find appropriate ones when we submit a paper!)

    Could we ask these editors to add the keywords in the web page or in the metadata of each article?

    In what concerns the Wiley editor, I re-tried with the same article of the ChemPhysChem journal, and it works! On the first time I didn't obtain the "snapshot" file, and I don't know if it the reason why there was no tag...

    Thanks

    yes. For ACS we're looking in the RIS (but even keywords on the page would help).
    For RSC we're looking in the metaags on the page, specifically in the content attribute here:
    <meta name="keywords" content="" />
    which even exists on that page, but is empty.
