my problem is that I want to you et al. in the citation in the footnotes but not in the bibliography. How can i do it in the visual editor that Zoetro uses et al. when there are more than 3 authors in the footnotes but still shows all authors in the bibliography?

Note that if you played around with et al. in the author macros, those settings will overried anything set at a higher level, so ideally try to revert that.
