How do I delink my zotero account from Firefox without deleting my library?

Hello, I'm trying to set up a Zotero account for my husband so he can use it for his research and thesis. A year ago, I had used his computer from home to do some of my own research and had downloaded the Firefox add-on, linking it to my own library.

My husband had since removed the add-on, so I thought it would be easy matter of reinstalling Zotero on his computer with his own account. But when I reinstalled the Firefox add-on I noticed that it automatically linked up to my account. I no longer want to use my account with his computer at all, but I'm afraid to use the reset buttons because I do not want to lose all of my own library files.

Is there some way I can log out of my account completely without deleting the files in my library? I don't need my files to be stored or saved locally on his computer, but I don't want to lose any of the files that I have stored in my account and synched to my own personal laptop.

Any help would be most appreciated!
  • uninstalling Zotero doesn't remove your local data, which is likely what you're seeing.
You can just remove your username & password from the sync tab of the Zotero preferences. Zotero will then no longer sync with your online account. Restart Zotero and double-check your info isn't in the sync tab any more.
Then, the easiest way to start your husband with a fresh library is to simply move the existing zotero data folder out of the way or delete it:
    https://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data
Restart Zotero and it will start up with an empty profile.

Absolutely do _not_ use the reset buttons.
  • Thanks! I was a little hesitant to use the reset buttons since there really didn't seem to be a very clear explanation of what they'd do. They seemed more like an option if you wanted to completely overhaul or change your library (either local or online) and didn't want to do either of those things. I'm glad I didn't mess with them.
