Troubleshooting Translator Errors

Before you post that a translator is not working, try these steps:

1) Make sure you have the latest version of Firefox (as of posting, it is Firefox 3).

2) Make sure you have the latest version of Zotero. You can find this information on the Zotero homepage.

3) Hover your cursor over the Icon that appears in the address bar. This will tell you which translator Zotero thinks it should use for the site you are viewing. If you are on the Burger King website and an icon appears for the JSTOR translator, chances are it's appearing in error and Zotero will not work properly for that site. Post the site name, a URL and the name of the mistaken translator in the Zotero forums.

4) Try disabling all Firefox add-ons except Zotero. To do this, open the tools menu and click "Add-ons" and follow on-screen instructions. If this solves the problem, please post the name of the Firefox add-on that was causing the issue.

5) If you are having chronic problems getting Zotero to work across multiple sites, you may have a problem with your translator database. To check this, click on the gear Icon in Zotero and select "Preferences." Under the "Advanced" tab there is a button called "Check Database Integrity." Click this button to find out if you have errors. If you do, you can find information on how to fix it at: https://www.zotero.org/utils/dbfix/

6) If a fix has recently come out for a translator and you can't wait until your copy of Zotero updates, click on "Preferences" in Zotero and under the "General" tab, click "Update now."

If none of these solutions solve your problem, please make a new thread and give the name of the site, a URL to an entry that is not working, and any information you see relevant.
