How to search in Z ?

Quick Search Options: Everything
It returns too many hits and they are mostly irrelevant (do not contain the search term)
  • what is your question?
  • and note that "Everything" includes he attachment full text content. If you don't want that, pick one of the other quick search types.
  • I do not know which field the search term to search so I set to "everything". That would return lots of hits but ony a few of them contain the search term. This is particularly annoying since there is no highlighting of the search term
  • if you just want to search in all fields, set the search to all fields and tags.
Beyond that, as I believe I have asked you before, please spend more time writing longer, more detailed questions. Trying to guess what you mean from your haiku-length posts is getting rather frustrating.
  • As long as there is no highlighting of search results, it will be
of limited use to search in Zotero
  • ok, you've expressed this several times now. We understand that that's the case for you, please don't write any more posts on this.
  • What would happen if I do remind you in 10 years from now ?
Will you destroy my Z collection ?
  • Please don't waste our time.

Don't post on the same issue to more than one thread.
Different people use Zotero in different ways. Not everybody shares your priorities, sometimes you're the only person experiencing a particular problem, or maybe you just didn't discover the best way to perform a task. Avoid generalizing statements like “it's obvious that without this feature, Zotero is useless for anybody”.
  • I think you did not get my message.
The issue is backup. Why ?
    Because of your aggressive responses
I cannot make a readable backup, tried with ENEX and htm export but it is not reproducing it all.
THerefore, I feel at loss with Z. It is unreliable.
  • I don't think any of us have gotten a very clear idea of what you are trying to do, or in what way it is not working as expected.

Not sure how we segued to this topic, but if you want to back up your data, just use a backup utility, and set it up to track your Zotero data folder. Instructions on locating that folder are here.

If you find Zotero confusing, it's worth spending some time reading in the Documentation section of the site, where there are clear answers to most common questions.
  • I created a report and it is not what I expected.
    I've read the documentation too.
Now I wonder if Z is on my TM (Time Machine) and how to find it
  • Sorry, but this isn't going anywhere and it's wasting people's time. This thread started out about search. Now it's suddenly about back-up (and reports?), which has nothing to do with search.

If you have a problem/question, you'll have to take the time to describe it in-depth and at length. If your post is shorter than about 200 words, it likely doesn't contain enough details for us to understand what's going on and I'm not going to keep trying to guess and I'd suggest other folks do the same.

So to restate that: If you have a problem and would like help with it, please take the time to carefully describe the problem and we'll be happy to help.
If you just want to vent or restate things you've said repeatedly, please do so somewhere else than on this forum.
  • I'm not sure this is a person, actually.
  • yes, they are - have been around for a significant time and older posts make more sense than these:

  • Not convinced. :) Same treatment either way, of course. Back to work ...
  • OK boys, I will stay in the corner.
