Column for "indexed"

There are options to show columns in the middle panel such as Type, Year, etc. I would like a column that indicates whether an item is indexed.

There was a similar request 9 months ago about adding "indexed" as a category under advanced search:
https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/29542/advance-search-should-also-filter-indexed/

And that references a thread started in 2009 about the same topic:
https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/6019/finding-unindexed-items/

And that references a ticket but nothing has been done on that for 5 years:
https://www.zotero.org/trac/ticket/1553

I think that this would be a very useful/important feature because it is nearly impossible to find 150 unindexed items in a library of thousands. There is no work-around short of spending a lot of time checking items one-by-one.

Do the developers think that this feature is significant enough to implement anytime soon? (I know that they are working on many feature requests.) Thanks.
  • I don't think this makes sense as a column. I think Advanced Search is the right place for this. In any case, it's unlikely to happen anytime soon without someone submitting a patch.
  • Re: adding it to advanced search, is that unlikely to happen because it is difficult to implement or because you do not think it's an important/useful feature?

As a workaround in the meantime, though, searching for
Attachment Content -- Does not Contain --- .
(with the search field set to regexp by clicking on the little arrow on the left)
Attachment File Type -- is -- PDF

works pretty well. It also returns image only PDFs, but otherwise gets you all unindexed PDFs.
  • I'd guess it's not a question of "unimportant" but of "we need to get other things done first" - the planned critical features for the next releases are pretty packed.
I don't think it'd be terribly hard to implement, though, no, so very much doable for a 3rd party contributor.
  • I tried the workaround but didn't get any results. I made sure to change the search to reg ex. I tried with and without 'attachment file type -- is -- PDF. Any suggestions?
  • I tested this before posting, so definitely works in general. Other PDF searches are working for you?
E.g. if you use "does contain" "." you get (a lot of) results?
  • Very strange - it works in the Zotero extension but not in Zotero standalone. I am using the profile directory for Standalone. When I click Search in standalone the search button immediately pops back up with no results listed. I also don't get any search results in Standalone for "does contain". So something wrong with my Standalone search?
  • apparently, yes. Make sure you have the most recent version, disable all add-ons, restart and try again. If you still get the empty results, provide an error report ID
