Ownership of collaborative data

I've looked for this in the forums, and apart from the strange discussion of the licensing of the software itself, there doesn't seem to be any planning for the question of how users will share the data that Zotero distributes. Is there a plan to allow users to select different types of licensing systems for the collaborations? Who <wincing> will own the data on the central servers?
  • There will be a plainspoken non-legalese privacy/usage policy for the server that will make this clear, but briefly, the answer is that it has always been the policy of the Zotero project that users own their own data and should be able to do with it whatever they want. (We call this the "It's Your Stuff" policy.) As academics ourselves and not a for-profit company will have no incentive to exploit your data, and there will be (indeed there already are) other options for putting your Zotero collection in the cloud.
