Dividing one Group Library into three separate Group Libraries

Our team has one Group Library with several subfolders, each of which belongs to one of three databases we are creating. We want to transfer/divide these subfolders into three separate Group Libraries, one for each of the databases, to still be accessible to all members of our team.

I've checked Zotero's documentation and it seems the way to do this is for the Zotero account holder (who purchased the server space) to create three new Group Libraries and invite everyone on our team to be members of all three libraries. Will we then be able to copy the existing subfolders, keeping all their items and attachments intact, into the three newly created Group Libraries? Only once the subfolders successfully copy to the new location would we delete the original folders from the original Group Library.

Is this possible in the way I've outlined or am I misunderstanding something?
  • Yes, that's how you would do it.
  • Thanks aurimas. Is the account holder the only person who can copy subfolders from the old group library to the new libraries, or can other members (who are members to both the old and new group libraries) also complete this task?
  • Any one who has write permissions to the new group and is a member of the old group can move/copy data between those libraries. You do have to do it in the Zotero client, not online on zotero.org
  • anyone with write access to the new group, which would definitely include all group admins, whether it also applies to members depends on the group settings.
  • Can it be done in the Zotero application that runs in the Firefox browser?
  • (in addition to the desktop application)
  • yes, Zotero client includes Zotero Standalone and Zotero for Firefox (they are functionally almost the same)
  • the two have the same functionality, yes. You just can't do it on the webpage.
