Can Tabs Be Added In The Standalone App For A Search History?

Hi,

I was just wondering if it is possible to formulate search tabs into the standalone app and to add a search history feature. It would be really helpful sometimes to have a history of of the literature I search for in my library from day to day. Especially when writing a document in split up segments over a semi-extended period of time. I appreciate any consideration this may get.

Thanks so much,

Nate
  • I have been using Zotero for half a decade, and this is one thing that would be greatly helpful. I keep all my notes in Zotero, which means that when I want to crosscheck a reference in another folder, I have to switch from my current document (note in this case) to another folder, and then I lose my place in the note (in another folder). If we could open another tab, I would be able to switch between references/notes with no problem. In addition to this feature, I would like the notes to be searchable within the note itself (e.g. CTRL F). I know you can search the folder for a word, but the word does not come up highlighted. Searched, highlighted keywords are key. Searchability will make or break Zotero in the future.

    Love the application!

  • I've never posted this feature request but I've long thought about such a "tabbed zotero".
As I imagine (dream about) it, that would be possible to "open" one or more references (like notes at the moment) in another tab(s). The tab would have a name (e.g. "Creator - Year - Title") and be divided in panes: metadata [Info] on the left, Notes, Tags, Related on the right. Thunderbird is doing something like that.
At the moment, it is indeed cumbersome to switch between different refs, collections...

I can't say how much I'd like to see this happen – it's amongst "my" top feature requests – but I know that it implies probably important changes in the code, and, then, people willing (and able) to code that. Anyway, would that be regarded as an improvement by the devs and power users ?

    As to the other requests:
-I don't know if fbennet's Item history plugin works with the latest versions but you should try it: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/18166/zotero-item-history-plugin/
-search within notes is planned : cf. Dan Stilmman's comment here (but the workaround he suggests doesn't work anymore, at least with Standalone)
