Add Items by Identifier

Report ID: 1665191207
When inputting a valid ISBN, I get this: Zotero could not find a record for the specified identifier. Please verify the identifier and try again. This is a valid ISBN and works on other computers with Zotero. We have tried disabling other add-ons and the Zotero version is the most recent: 4.0.17.1
  • what's the ISBN?
  • It's a series of numbers that identify the book-- shown on the copyright page and some other places. You are supposed to be able to enter it and have Zotero automatically generate the citation.
  • I know what an ISBN is. I'm asking what the specific ISBN that isn't working is.
  • Ok, sorry. I've tried multiple ISBNs and none of them are working, but they work on another machine. I don't have the one I recently tried with me now.
  • @Dan - I doubt it's going to be of much use, but could you check the report?

@atougas - we'll almost certainly need a debug ID that covers an attempt to add by an ISBN. Ideally use 9780199206483 which we know is working
    http://www.zotero.org/support/debug_output
  • Ok, that ISBN you suggested didn't work either. Here's the debug ID: D546421537.
  • That debug output doesn't cover an add attempt. Reread the instructions.
  • Hi, I am a bit confused by the instructions but have now obtained the following ID: D1346842188. Is that correct?
  • No. Could you explain what you don't understand about the instructions? A Debug ID doesn't work the same way as a Report ID — you have to start the logging, perform the relevant action (in this case, trying to add an item by ISBN), and then submit the output.
  • Ok, I think this is it: D1107785998.

Sorry, I'm not very technologically-inclined. If that's not right, let's just bag it.

    That's better — thanks.
(3)(+0000001): Translate: Beginning translation with Library of Congress ISBN

    (3)(+0000000): HTTP GET http://lx2.loc.gov:210/LCDB?operation=searchRetrieve&version=1.1&query=bath.ISBN=0415039495&maximumRecords=1
The response is XML with "Access to specified database denied" (which I'm also getting for that URL).
  • (technical - atougas, pls. ignore):
The LoC's SRU server is down, including for their own examples. But the ISBN search translator should then try WorldCat, which it does for me - any indication why that's not happening in the debug?
    0415039495 works for me.

Oh, from the looks of it atougas's translators are messed up — it only parses code for LoC ISBN and PubMed, whereas for me it parses a whole bunch of translators.

atougas: Try resetting your translators from the Advanced -> Files and Folders pane of the Zotero preferences, at the bottom under "Database Maintenance".
  • It is working now! Thanks very much.
  • did you reset your translators? Because if you didn't, you'll find a lot of other things not working properly with that version of Zotero.
  • Yes I reset them and now it is working. All set now-- thanks
