Web of Knowledge import has stopped working on Safari

Since a recent change to the Web of Knowledge website interface, I can no longer import records to Zotero using the Safari plugin on a Mac. Firefox works fine with the same pages.

Apologies if this is dealt with elsewhere.

Could you go through the relevant steps outlined here: http://www.zotero.org/support/troubleshooting_translator_issues ?

If you get to step 12, please provide all of the requested information.

Edit: FWIW, everything seems to be working ok on Windows with Chrome, Safari, and Firefox even over a proxy.
  • Thanks for the info. Web of Knowledge is still not working for me after going through the 12-steps.

    Steps to reproduce:
-Mac OS 10.8, Safari 6.1 with working Zotero plugin, Standalone Zotero 4.0.17 running in background. Test sites like NYtimes.com work fine.
-URL: http://www.webofknowledge.com/ [[note, this is a subscription service that I enter through a University proxy, so I'm not entirely sure what you'll see when following this link]]
-Symptoms: After logging in if I search for an article, say by authors "Francis and Vavrus", after selecting any record I do not see a translator in the address bar button. The button just shows the grey Z in a circle icon (Zotero is Online). Note: this used to work fine on Safari with the exact same machine, I only noticed it wasn't working in the past month or so.

I checked the Zotero Preferences on Safari and found there was a Javascript error being reported, and submitting that yielded Report ID:133293258.
  • we need a URL exactly as you see it when you're looking at a WoK article - the start page doesn't help us.
  • OK, this is the URL (including the proxy info, which requires a University login I believe):
    http://apps.webofknowledge.com.proxy.lib.uwaterloo.ca/full_record.do?product=WOS&search_mode=GeneralSearch&qid=3&SID=3CfuUzaj1aSpm3KkwYL&page=1&doc=1
  • That's really quite odd. Even if the ISI translator didn't work (which it should), Zotero would pick up the DOI on that page.
Could you provide a debug ID for loading that page:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/debug_output#zotero_connectors_chrome_and_safari

    btw.
(including the proxy info, which requires a University login I believe):
that's correct, but we do always want to see the proxied URL in case the proxy does something unusual. Which it doesn't in this case, this is completely standard.
  • An update: I tried accessing the same URL from inside the University network today (no authentication or proxy required), and I was able to translate the page from Safari without a problem.

However, back at home now connecting via the proxy I'm seeing the same problem again. In Zotero Connector Preferences from Safari (Report ID:1578987967):
[JavaScript Error: "DataCloneError: DOM Exception 25" {file: "safari-extension://org.zotero.zoteroconnectorforsafari-69X6C999F9/2b0d8b21/messaging_inject.js" line: 80}]

So I guess it must somehow be related to the proxy, but does anyone have an idea of why this is happening?
