USER TYPES

1. IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE DIFFERENT USER LEVELS WHEN USING ZOTERO?
CAN ONE BE ABLE TO SET UP LIMITATIONS TO HOW MUCH A USER CAN ACCESS FROM A COLLECTION, MAY BE BECAUSE OF SECURITY OF THE FILES, OR MEMBERSHIP.
  • (please don't use all caps).

You have some ability to distinguish between Members and Administrators for Groups: http://www.zotero.org/support/groups
but it's currently not very fine grained. You can determine whether regular group members can edit items and/or whether they can edit files. You cannot set this on a finer level than a group, e.g. not for an individual collection.
  • Thanks Adam. I am working with Francis, and we've got an issue with allowing access to all the attachments. We would like to differentiate between people who have access to the bibliography + attachments, vs. those who have access to the bibliography only. This is due to copyright issues. If there is another string that can help with this, please do let us know.
  • We have same issue as dskinner... would be awesome to have a solution, otherwise we cannot use zotero.
  • oh, if it's just attachments: You can make your group - or library - public but close membership. Everyone will be able to see your library online, no one will be able to access attached files.
What is not possible is to a) also restrict the viewing of the items and b) allow people to sync a group library (i.e. make them members) but not allow them access to files.
A workaround for b) is to have both a private library — with file attachments— and a separate public group. Public groups don't allow any file attachments, so no copyright issues.
