How do I delete item??

Sorry for what should be the most basic question, but my Delete option isn't available in the Edit dropdown menu in Zotero. What's going on? I also have tried moving items directly to the Trash, but nothing moves.
Am I missing something?

  • right-click --> move item to trash
  • I'm on a Mac, no right-click
  • You can configure right-click on your touchpad, typically as a two finger tap (google it) but otherwise use ctrl+click. While it's certainly possible to use without, you'll have a much better experience using Zotero with right-click.

    I think opt+delete does the same (it's shift+delete on Windows/Linux), but you may have to try a couple of delete combinations.
  • You can just highlight the item in the library root and press Delete on the keyboard, or Command-Delete to delete within a collection. (The Delete key alone in a collection will remove the item from the collection but not move it to the trash.)

    But as adamsmith says, you definitely have right-click/control-click on a Mac, and it is quite useful.
  • (That said, we should probably add at least some of the context-menu actions to the menus in Standalone, or come up with another solution to expose the context-menu options elsewhere in the UI in a more accessible way, since as far as I know on a Mac you can't even trigger the context menu at the cursor position via the keyboard without a third-party utility.)
  • Thanks, the opt+delete worked.
  • Option-Delete does nothing. It's just Delete or Cmd-Delete, depending on where you are in Zotero.
  • Sorry, I meant command-delete.
