NIH format?

Hi,

Im new to Zotero and am trying to figure out how to instal the NIH citation format for grants. Can anyone help. I use chrome and have the standalone app. I have no problem saving/loading the desired citations into my document but cannot figure out how to switch to NIH.

I saw some other forum postings from 2 yrs ago addressing it, saying to post the following info on this link (http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2205075/NIH%20Style%20PMID.csl)

But those posts dont seem to explain how to actually do it. I cant find a way to solve this.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

thanks!
  • There's a style for the NLM grant proposal format, which I'd assume is the same as NIH:
    http://zotero.org/styles?q=grant proposal

There's a small bug currently in Zotero that will prevent PMCIDs from getting printed, though. You'll need to use the branch xpi:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/dev_builds#zotero_40_branch
(which only works as a firefox extension, not as a Zotero Standalone version) or wait until Zotero 4.0.18 comes out.

Using a file written by Matt Tracy:
    1) open a text program
    2) paste the code here http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2205075/NIH Style PMID.csl
    3) save with the extension .csl not .txt
    4) drag and drop the file into your open browser and zotero will automatically install it.
  • I'm not sure why you're promoting this in every thread without any mention why - I'd generally prefer people use official styles, which we make sure work&validate.
The grant proposal style on the style repository works fine and, in line with NIH requirements, prints the PMCID and only where that's not available substitutes the PMID. There were some problems with that, but it's works nicely with Zotero 4.0.18 and is preferable to just printing the extra field.
  • Has anyone taken the grant proposal style on the style repository and changed the citation style from brackets to superscript? NIH doesn't specify that you have to use brackets and a superscript can save space.

If anyone more skillful than me can do this, it would certainly be much appreciated!
