Zotero MLZ Scrivener

Hi,

so I am trying to use scrivener along with zotero and MLZ seemed the best option for me since I am also a legal researcher. Unfortunately -for me- my IT knowledge is restricted to the very basics. (by the way i use mac)

I tried to follow all the steps to upgrade to MLZ but the first troubles appeared when i could not open Zotero standalone. A window appeared saying that i needed to update Zotero, i clicked update and then standalone would just close.

I then tried to uninstall MLZ through the tools - add-ons manager in firefox, uninstalled standalone and to download everything again. This though did not work as my firefox plugin now brings up this error:

This version of Zotero is older than the version last used with your database. Please upgrade to the latest version from zotero.org.

Current version: 4.0.17.1

See http://zotero.org/support/kb/newer_db_version for more information.

So now i cannot use zotero at all.

anyone with any ideas on how to get back up and running?
  • When MLZ modifies the database, it presents a notice that explains most of this. It is the expected behaviour.

MLZ runs only in Firefox. It modifies the database structure, and standard Zotero cannot be used to directly access an MLZ database. Standalone is a standard Zotero client, which is why it won't run for you.

The most common solution is to run MLZ in Firefox, but enable a feature that allows it to behave like Standalone -- so that you can browse in Chrome or Safari and save items to the MLZ database. It's simple to set up. The instructions are here:
