How to stop syncing with server?

I prefer to use Zotero to maintain information on my computer, but NOT to sync with the server. Unable to find way to opt out of syncing, despite trying to follow documentation.

I don't have a need to access my information from other computers, do not wish to add additional storage on the server. Zotero hangs for several minutes every time I try to add anything because I have exceeded sync quota.

Win XP PRO SP3, Zotero 4.0.12
  • Try this:
    Go to Preferences
    Select Sync
Under settings, make sure that "sync automatically" and "sync full-text content" are disabled.
For extra caution, also disable "sync attachment file.." and "sync attachment files in group..." as added caution. Methiks your problem is solved.
  • also, you should update Zotero to version 4.0.16, which contains numerous bug fixes.

And no need to do all of the things lwene says.

If you just want to avoid automatic syncs, unchecking "Sync automatically" is enough.

If you don't mind having a copy of your data accessible online but just want to avoid the quota error, you can instead just uncheck the file syncing options.

If you don't want to sync ever again, you can instead just clear your username and password.
  • PROBLEM SOLVED. Sometimes...I just don't see the solution although it is right in front of me. Thanks to Iwene, adamsmith, and Dan Stillman.
