BibLaTeX export versus BibTeX export

What are the difference between BibLaTeX exporter and BibTeX exporter?

Does the BibLaTeX exporter convert some fields in a different way than the BibTeX one? I suppose it does but I didn't notice the change.

Is there somewhere a documentation about the differences?
  • the biblatex export translator conforms as closely as possible to the biblatex manual, which means yes, it uses different item types (e.g. @incollection instead of @inbook for book sections, @online instead of @misc for webpages ) as well as a good number of different fields - mostly fields that don't exist in "standard" bibtex (where standard bibtex is, unfortunately, not clearly defined, but basically our best judgment on what constitutes standard).

No, there is no documentation of the differences. They started from the same translator, so you can certainly look at a diff and try to make sense of it.

    Easy usage guide:

If you use "standard" BibTeX, use the BibTeX-translator.

If you use BibLaTeX ("a complete reimplementation of the bibliographic facilities provided by LaTeX in conjunction with BibTeX" http://www.ctan.org/pkg/biblatex), to get the most out of it, use the BibLaTeX translator
