Mouse hover to see references in document

I apparently have been spoiled by Wikipedia's feature whereby you can hover your mouse over a reference [2] and a tooltip box pops up giving the text of the reference. Similarly, hovering over a hyperlink in Word produces a tooltip of the link URL. I would love to see Zotero references have the same functionality when I'm editing the Word document!

Yes, there is some discussion of this linked to from my 11/1/13 post in this thread, but those conversations are primarily about getting linking to work, and the mouse-hover is a potentially separate piece of functionality.
  • I don't think it's separate - the mouse-over would almost certainly have to rely on Word functionality, which in turn is tied to links, so getting links to work is likely both the best and the only way to make that happen.
  • For reference, Option 2 here shows a way to do this in Word using hyperlinks http://shaunakelly.com/word/layout/glossary.html I don't know of another way to add tooltips with custom text.

So as adamsmith says, hyperlinks and tooltips will have to be implemented at the same time.

@adamsmith, do you know if this will be possible in LibreOffice?
  • I think so:

but would have to test this out for details, especially re: mouseover.
