Mark as read / unread

I've been experimenting with different ways to mark articles as read or not read. I'd like to have a column display for quick references within my collections or sub collections.

Any suggestions on different ways that might meet this need.

The fact that the tags don't display in the columns is what prevents me from doing that.

I'm using a Mac OS and Zotero 4.0.16.

Thanks in advance for suggestions.
Sarah
  • Have you tried using colored tags?
Up to 6 tags can be assigned colors and numbers. Numbered tags can be quickly added or removed using the corresponding number keys on your keyboard.

Since I couldn't find documentation on colored tags in the _collections and tags_ section, I added it there. http://www.zotero.org/support/collections_and_tags#tags

There's some documentation on colored tags here: http://zotero-manual.github.io/zotero-manual/tags#colored_tags

@Dan, should I add that link to the _collections and tags_ documentation?

Edit: I went ahead added it.

Thank you very much, to both of you. This is exactly what I've needed. I now have a color that I will use to mark articles as read. It also helps with the theme identification as well. I've setup my three research themes so the color coding shows for that as well.

You have all helped me organize my research and find the themes throughout my references.

Thank you once again for the great help! This program just keeps getting better and better.

    Thanks,
    Sarah
  • Sorry to respond again, but I now have my references all cleaned up. This is exactly what I've been waiting for. THANK you!

I now have set colors for the 3 themes in my research, included in literature review, not related to dissertation, and a read color. Perfect! This is really helping me gain a quick view of the articles that I've collected and will be useful in searching for relationships between themes.

A couple more colors would be nice since they are already available in the picker, because I'd like to mark what's been printed or not. However, that's not an issue going to the tags tab.

Thanks again for your quick help. I feel like I've made great strides in my organization this morning. Plus, this is helping me reduce the number of sub-collections that I need.

    Thanks,
    Sarah
