Oxford Solo import item fails

Apologies if this has been raised elsewhere (I know there are a number of similar threads but I haven't seen this issue recently).

The automatic import from Oxford Solo into Zotero Firefox doesn't seem to be working for me. I get a 'Could not save item' error message instead which refers to known translator issues.

Full error details are at the bottom of the bug report here: 800188799.

I've checked that Zotero is fully up to date.

Here's the example I was trying to import:

Very grateful for any help.
  • odd. Works for me. Are you logged into Solo when you try that (I'm not, just trying to figure out what the differences could be)

Dan - what's the error message? And the versions are indeed all up to date?

[JavaScript Error: "Could not locate item type" {file: "/home/[...]/.zotero/zotero/[...].default/zotero/translators/Primo.js" line: 194}]"
OJohnstone: Try disabling your other Firefox extensions. It looks like you may have something that's conflicting.
  • Thanks. I've tried disabling my extensions one by one but it still didn't work. Interestingly, when they were all disabled (bar the Zotero ones) I did get a different error message: 816111652

I'm not logged in normally when trying to import.
  • by "the Zotero ones" you just mean Zotero and the Word or LibreOffice plugin, right? There are Zotero related add-ons by 3rd parties that may very well interfere.
Is this a general problem on Solo or restricted to some items?
  • Yes, that's right. I do also have the RTF/ODF plug in - but I installed that recently and the Solo problem has been at least a month or two.

It is a general problem - I haven't been able to get the import to work at all on Solo even though it works fine on (so far as I can remember) every other site I've tried it on.
  • adamsmith: This is showing up, for what it's worth:
The "data:undefined" looks a little suspicious.

OJohnstone: Can you provide a Debug ID (with other extensions still disabled, just to keep things cleaner) for a save attempt for that item?
  • Certainly, here it is: D1332732799

Are you saving the item immediately after loading the page, or are you waiting some period of time?

Do you have Firefox set to block any cookies?

adamsmith: I'd guess that OJohnstone is getting the 'null' response to the showPNX request (http://solo.ouls.ox.ac.uk/primo_library/libweb/showPNX.jsp?id=0) for some reason. I actually was able to trigger this same error one time, possibly after leaving the page open for a couple minutes and then trying to save.
  • yes, leaving the page open for ~10mins will do that. I believe we need an active session for the PNX request to work.
  • I usually try to save immediately after I've opened the page. I don't often wait more than a few seconds really.

I'm not sure if I have cookies blocked. But I went into site preferences for the Solo page and made sure cookies were enabled for the site. Still didn't seem to work unfortunately.
  • In the Privacy tab of your Firefox preferences, under History, is it set to "Remember History"?
  • No, I have it on not remembering history.
  • that may be the problem then - Firefox includes cookies under those settings (see 7. here: http://www.zotero.org/support/troubleshooting_translator_issues )
  • You're absolutely right, that's done it. Sorry for not spotting it earlier.

It's a bit odd though - enabling cookies just for that site doesn't have any effect. I have to enable history for all sites for some reason.
  • I vaguely remember this could be a Firefox bug in how those settings are applied, but I'm not sure.
  • OK, turns out you just have to allow cookies from the ox.ac.uk domain and it works fine. Thanks very much for your help.
