Upgrade StorageZotero Chrome connector does not work

I am getting this Javascript error: [JavaScript Error: "Attempting to use a disconnected port object" {file: "messaging" line: 69}].
Steps to reproduce:
I just installed Zotero on my 64-bit Linu machine (Chromium browser) and the download to Zotero icon does not show up (it is never visible).

which version of Chromium?
Version 30.0.1599.114 Ubuntu 12.04 (30.0.1599.114-0ubuntu0.12.04.3)
Have you tried with all other Chromium extensions disabled?
Right now it says unavailable because I do not have the standalone app open, and when I have it open on my desktop it says available. In both cases the icon does not show up.
