New install: Zotero crashes FF 25.0.1

Hi all,

I've installed Zotero onto my Windows 7 laptop for the first time. The program worked for the first few minutes, but now every time I click on the 'Zotero' icon to open the Zotero pane, Firefox crashes completely, and I need to restart it. Hence I can't even get in to give you a report ID.

This is the only error report I can pull out from the FF console.

[17:08:54.031] TypeError: History.getState is not a function @ http://www.zotero.org/static/js/_zoterowwwAll.bugly.1383691501.js:4477

I've uninstalled and reinstalled everything, deleted and recreated parts of my profile, and restarted the machine several times.

Still no joy. Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks very much, as I love using Zotero.
  • By "crashes" you mean "freezes", I take it? (A crash means it quits completely by itself.)

Does installing the latest 4.0 Branch dev XPI help at all?
  • Also, do you have Zotero data on this computer, or is this happening with an empty library? If it's set up to sync, is it syncing with the account you're posting from or one with more data?
  • Thanks for your quick reply Dan.

Yes FF does completely quit by itself.

I've tried the 4.0 Branch dev XPI, and the problem is still there.

I can't find any obvious conflicts either.

I disabled Sync, and began with an empty/fresh library, yet it still happens.
  • Oh, OK, if this is an actual crash, type about:crashes into the Firefox address bar. If you see a crash entry that corresponds to one of the recent crashes, click through it and post the Mozilla URL here.
  • Thanks Dan.

Here are three of the most recent crash reports, corresponding to my tests I reinstalled everything:

  • lmrn.dll@0xb20e0
OK, this is caused by some third-party software on your system.

Do you happen to use a program called IncrediMail? If so, that's the problem.
  • Thanks for isolating that.

No, I don't use IncrediMail, but I will try and work out what kind of piece of software would interfere in this way.

Looks like trial and error is needed.
  • SmileBox would apparently be another application by the same developer. (It's not clear that that's where that file is from, but worth a mention.)
  • Thanks for this Dan.

The problem was the Sweetpacks adware package that had found its way onto my machine, and I hadn't properly dealt with it.

Any remnant of it in the reg does not play with Zotero.

All good now. thanks for the time.
