Creating bibliography that includes notes?

I'm using the Standalone version of Zotero on a PC. I imported a bunch of stuff from RefWorks and I need to create my own custom codes for my references and also annotate them. I assume the Notes function is best for this. How can you create a bibliography in AMA format that includes your personal notes? I tried highlighting references, right clicking and choosing Create Bibliography then copying and pasting into Word. Of course, this doesn't pull over Notes.
First, is Notes the best place to put annotations in Zotero. Second, how does one extract them into a bibliography with references?
Thanks!
  • You can't include notes in the bibliography. The annotated bibliographies that people use either use the "Extra" or the "Abstract" field. So if you need to include notes in the bibliography, you need to put them there.
If you need AMA, you will need to customize the citation style, but that's not very hard to do. Annotated versions of APA and Chicago are available from zotero.org/styles

Alternatively you can look at reports, which do include notes

  • That's very helpful! Thank you! Someone created an AMA style. Is there anyway to globally delete selected data? For example, query my database to find all references where there was already garbage data in the Extra field and then delete it all at once or is that something I'd have to customize on the import?
    Thanks again!
  • not easily at the moment, though if you're technologically adventurous, see:

  • I hope Zotero will add a function that allows me to print my bibliographies with all my notes. Is there a forum or category for this request?
