As soon as opened, Zotero shuts down and asks for repetition of the process of opening the software.

It has happened 5 or 6 times so far...

Upgrade to Zotero 4.0.14. You're running 4.0.8.

(When in doubt, for Zotero or anything else, you can just go the home page. On the home page of zotero.org there's a large red download button that takes you to the above page.)

Zotero should be upgrading automatically, though, so I'm not sure why that didn't happen for you. With any luck it will start now.
