Problems with MLA citation for websites (n.d. n.p. and Web.)

I am running into problems citing websites Zotero using the 7th edition MLA. It does not remember to use n.p. if no publisher name is available and n.d. if no publishing date is given. This is required by MLA style according Purdue OWL and my children's teachers. Also, Zotero does not include the web medium i.e."Web". Here is a model example that OWL gives -

"How to Make Vegetarian Chili." eHow. Demand Media, n.d. Web. 24 Feb. 2009.

Here is the citation generated by Zotero for a website using MLA 7th edition with URL:

LeBlanc, Rick. “Zero Waste, Zero Landfill and the Role for Recycling.” Recyling About.com,. 7 Oct. 2013. <http://recycling.about.com/od/Singlestreamrecycling/a/Zero-Waste-Zero-Landfill-And-Role-For-Recycling.htm>.

Here is the same source using Zotero MLA 7th edition (no url:

LeBlanc, Rick. “Zero Waste, Zero Landfill and the Role for Recycling.” Recyling About.com,. Web. 7 Oct. 2013.

EasyBib cites it as:

LeBlanc, Rick. "Zero Waste, Zero Landfill and Role for Recycling." About.com Recycling. N.p., n.d. Web. 09 Oct. 2013. <http://recycling.about.com/od/Singlestreamrecycling/a/Zero-Waste-Zero-Landfill-And-Role-For-Recycling.htm>.

Neither Zotero versions add the n.d. n.p. and Web. info. Do I have to enter that manually? Am I missing a field in Zotero? Suggestions?

  • I'll take a look but will likely take a bit. Zotero doesn't have a proper field for the publisher of a webpage, so it may be worthwhile looking at a different item type for this anyway (as long as you include a URL, Zotero will treat it as a web resource). I believe only the regular MLA version (without URL) is currently well maintained.
  • The style is now fixed. The updated version will appear on the repository within 30mins (check the timestamp). Update your copy of the style by re-installing it from the repository. (See here if you need instructions for installing styles in standalone.)

Styles should also update automatically within 24hs for Zotero 4.0+
In an existing document, you may have to switch to a different style and back for the changes to take effect once the style is updated.
