No syncing icon on web version

Hi there,

I wondered if anyone could help me with a problem I'm having; I'm trying to share a library with someone, and I have created a group with them, but I can't see a way of sharing my library items into the group folder.
I have done this online, and I wondered if I needed to sync this with my standalone library? If I did this would I get rid of the references online?

Any help would be much appreciated!

All the best,
Liz
  • I have done this online, and I wondered if I needed to sync this with my standalone library?
Yes, you need to do this on your local Zotero client. Zotero website does not have nearly as many features as the local client.
If I did this would I get rid of the references online?
I'm not sure what references you're referring to. Could you elaborate?
  • I have entered over 300 references into my online zotero client, and I wondered if I tried to sync to the standalone references (in order to successfully set up a group with someone), would the references still be there online? Or would zotero assume that all the references I want are on the standalone version?
  • You have to explicitly delete a reference for Zotero to delete it during sync. Otherwise references are merged (i.e. references that are online, but not on your local client will appear on the local client and vice versa)

So, no, if you sync, your references will not disappear.
  • Thanks, that's really helpful.

If I sync, will I be able to add references to a sharing group? I can't see a way of adding them at the moment.
  • Yes, you will be able to add/edit references in the group if you have editing permissions (but seeing how you are the owner of that group, it should certainly be the case).
  • Great thanks for your help!
