Upgrade StoragePDF: Naming/Bibliographic information
Hi there,
I have added a couple of pdf files to my library by clicking on the link and selecting save from the zotero drop down option.
However the files just save with whatever name they were given originally. I appreciate there are no benchmarks for these files so I am happy to rename them and add the bibliographic information by hand, however even this is proving problematic.
1.) I right click and choose show file, I then rename the file, but it doesn't change the file name in zotero. Worse it says the file can not be found afterwards when I try to select it again! (Although it seems able to find the renames file when I select locate.
2.) Unlike the references that have been imported from an online database like j-store the pdf files do not have an info tab (indeed it doesn't have any additional tabs) so I can't even enter the bibliographic information by hand.
Can you tell me how to get round these probelms?

You can right-click the file and try "Retrieve PDF Metadata" - when successful this will attach the PDF to an item with filled out metadata (like title author etc.). If it fails, your next step is to use "Create Parent Item" from the same right-click menu. That will attach the file to an empty item where you can fill out the metadata. You can then use right click --> Rename File from Parent Metadata to rename the file.
