In-text citation sometimes lists full author name

In a few (seemingly random) in text citations of works with 2 or 3 authors, the Zotero end note will list the full name of the first author, e.g. (Ian Hayes, Hughes, and Tutton, 2002).

As far as I know the first name of the author should not be appearing (there are not multiple entries in the Library for an author with the name "Hayes," so it's not attempting to distinguish two authors with the same last name...)

Anyone have any troubleshooting tips?
  • The only two reasons this would happen is
    1. Because you have entered the author incorrectly (i.e. Ian Hayes in single field mode instead of Hayes, Ian in two field mode).
    2. http://www.zotero.org/support/kb/given_name_disambiguation
note that having Ian Hayes entered differently for different works would trigger this.
  • Once again you are correct.

I think I'm starting to get a hang of this, but slowly. Thanks so much for your guidance.
