Impossible to change citations in WORD

I have a problem with my citations in MS Word 2007. For some of the citations in the WORD file I can't change these citations. I always get "Sie müssen den Cursor in einer Zotero-Zitation positionieren, um sie zu bearbeiten", if I want to change a citation.

I use Word 2007; Firefox 24.0, Zotero 4.0.12 and Zotero Word for Windows Integration 3.1.13. I am using the IEEE format style and the field mode in WORD.
Surprisingly, if I change the Field mode in the "Zotero Set Doc Prefs" to the Reference Mark mode, I can can change ALL citations!
  • "if I change the Field mode in the "Zotero Set Doc Prefs" to the Reference Mark mode, I can can change ALL citations!"

you mean "Bookmarks" here, right? Reference Marks shouldn't even be an option in Word.

Can you change the entire document to a different citation style (this is for troubleshooting)?
  • Yes you are right, the correct term is "Bookmark"/"Lesezeichen" in German language.
I can change the entire document to a different citation style in the "Zotero Set Doc Prefs", but nevertheless some of the citations in the WORD style can NOT be changed!
  • So say you change the document to "American Psychological Association" so you get citations that are a bit longer. All citations change to (author date), correct? And when you place the cursor in one of those - and try to "edit citation" you still get the same error?
  • I could change to the "American Psychological Association" citation style, but the error message remained the same for some of the citations.
