zotero cannot download pdf using vpn connection

zotero: version: 4.0.11
google chrome: 29.0.1547.66 m
they are all the latest.
I have been using vpn for a while and I was able to download articels with pdf automatically. Now, pdfs don't download. If i try a download, first, the small pop up window at the right side corner of the screen) would list the pdf file (which means pdf is being downloaded). Then there will be a red cross mark on the pdf file showing that downloading pdf failed. what to do?

Where are you downloading from and are you sure you can open the pdf?

The pdfs are not downloaded at all. The rest of the stuff, like title and snapshot are downloaded. Not pdf.

I can upload some pictures to show you. How can I do it?

you're not using VPN - those are proxy servers (the ezproxy.uta.edu part). PDFs do not import from those (and a couple of other) sites when using Chrome with a proxy server). With actual VPN this would likely work.

And is there a way that I can remove the ezproxy part of the url automatically? I cannot do it by hand every time.

How are you navigating to these pages? This usually would happen if you're accessing the pages through your institution's library or explicitly through a proxy (perhaps you're using a bookmarklet?).
