tags: improving usability, decreasing number of clicks

Hi,

thanks a lot for making my live better and less expensive! I've looked through the fora and didn't find a thread on this:

When entering a new book, a major inconvenience has been entering tags for me: I have to switch tabs with my mouse, click "add tags", and only then can I add multiple tags just by hitting the <enter> key after each entry.

My suggestion:
(1) Allow to enter tags directly with an automatically offered key sensitive entry field instead of having to click the "add tag" button. Eliminate the button altogether

(2) Additionally, allow entering tags this way already on the first "info" tab, eliminating the need to click a new tab with a mouse for entering tags.

This way, entering a new book/chapter/etc. entry could be done entirely by moving through the entry fields with the <tabulator> key & entering all data.
  • Hi,
I absolutly agree with these suggestions and would like to see something similar for attachments and notes so that it is not necessary to switch to the different tabs...
  • Hello,
Dan Stillman addressed this bug on Sep 18th 2007. He said,
"The loss of focus is a bug, but a quick workaround is to temporarily close the tag selector. Then you can just hit return to create each tag without losing focus."
    See http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/281/ and also
    http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/1712/ .
At first I thought he meant we should click away from tags tab on the right side of the screen to notes or something, and then return, which didn't work. Upon further inspection, the little icon to the left of the gear-shaped "actions" is a Show/Hide Tag Selector toggle. I hadn't noticed this before.
