Standalone Setup File Extracts to Nowhere (Win8)

It's the case of the missing Zotero Installation!

I saw other threads documenting this problem, but was prompted to start another discussion because I didn't see anything about standalone problems with Windows 8. I'm simply trying start the installation...I open the setup file downloaded from the website, it fully extracts, the Extracting window collapses, and Zotero is never heard from again.

I checked my installed programs...it's not there. It doesn't automatically start the installation process either. Does anyone know if this is a problem with my Windows settings? Please help!

Thanks,

  • I checked the Temp directories and cannot find any .exe file it might have made, please help!

  • The installer extracts itself using 7zSD and then runs. I'm not aware of anyone reporting issues in the past, so I have no idea why this wouldn't work on your system. Assuming extracting didn't fail, it should be in a directory starting with "7ZipSfx" in the temp directory.
  • I'm pretty sure you can just extract the setup file yourself using 7-zip and then run the setup.exe that's inside.
  • ...The setup file continued to extract to nowhere. That is, until I right-clicked and selected "Run as Administrator"...

    Problem solved.

    Thanks, all!
