REPORT ID 1260903713 - Synch Problems with Mac Standalone

Hello,

I recently started encountering a problem syncing from the standalone version for a mac, which is preventing new data from being synced. From what I can tell, the problem started after I linked a file in dropbox to its entry in Zotero. Now there is always an error message, which states "Component returned failure code: 0x80520006 (NS_ERROR_FILE_TARGET_DOES_NOT_EXIST) [nsILocalFile.isDirectory]"

The program works fine on another computer using the stand alone program with linked files to a dropbox folder so the problem must be specific to this computer.

Is there a better way to store files? Previously, I had just been attaching everything into my database, but I was worried this would not be a sustainable practice.

Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks,

Frank
  • Are you setting the base directory for relative paths correctly? See "Relative Linked Attachment Filepaths" section here: http://zoteromusings.wordpress.com/2013/04/11/whats-new-in-zotero-4-0-part-2/

On the other hand, that should not cause problems with Zotero syncing (as it doesn't care about linked files during the sync AFAIK). We'll see what the Report ID shows.

Can you provide a Debug ID for a sync attempt that triggers this error? (I also don't see that error in the error report. Are you sure you submitted that after the error occurred and before restarting Zotero? In any case, the Debug ID should help.)
  • I tried it again and was given this error ID: 511725394. It also gave the message "PAC file installed from http://proxy.lib.berkeley.edu/proxy.pac." I honestly have no idea what is about, since I don't think I've changed any settings.

I mentioned that I started getting the error when I switched from attaching files to the database entries, and instead linked the entries to files in a dropbox folder. To be clear, I didn't change or move any files from the database; I just used the link file option for a couple of new entries.

I did notice that some files I added on another computer before realizing the error message on the other computer aren't showing up, so there is a discrepancy between the two computers if that's creating a further problem.

Again, thanks very much for your help.
  • We'll need a Debug ID, not a Report ID.

We'll fix this, but I'd guess that you have the linked attachment base directory set to a path that no longer exists on that computer. If you reset it from the Advanced pane of the Zotero preferences, this might go away.
  • I see. I'll check to see if that's the problem
  • Resetting the relative base directory seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks very much for your help.
