Word plug in

I have downloaded the plug in, and when I try to install I get a message that it can't do it because Word is open. But Word isn't open. Now what?

    Thank you so much for your help. I have Word 2007 and Windows 7. I just downloaded Zotero. We rebooted 5 times and receive the same error

    That likely points to a write permission issue - for some reason Zotero can't write to the Word Startup folder.
    Reasons could include
    - security software
    - running Zotero on a different user account than Word
    - a "read only" setting on the Word startup folder.

    For the latter point - which is probably the most likely, identify the Word Startup folder and check the write permissions using right-click --> Properties
