delete duplicate file in Library

Hi,

I have several duplicate files in my library. The scenario is as follows:

/mylibrary/project1/filex
/mylibrary/project1/filex
/mylibrary/project2/filex

As you can see filex (journal article) is repeated in both project1
and project2 folders. I have tried the option "move item to trash" (from one of the three items) but the problem is that with this option filex is removed from the three locations and I want

1. delete one of the duplicates in project1
2. delete the duplicate in project2

I have also tried the option "remove item from collection" but in this case the item is not removed from the library but it is sent to the "unfiled items" folder. My question, how can I safely remove duplicate files in Zotero.

Thanks.
  • If it is a single item that is placed in multiple collections, then using "remove from collection" (while you are viewing it inside a specific collection) is what your want. The item will remain in My Library, which shows all your items, as well as all other collections. If you remove the item from all collections, it will then show up in unfilled.

If those are 3 duplicated items (you can see if they show up under duplicate items), then you want to move the duplicates to trash (from whichever collection).

What you describe cannot be happening.
