Access PDF files on a computer without Zotero inside it

Dear Zotero and users,

Sorry if this topic has been discussed before. Oftenly I use Zotero in more than one computer that have Zotero inside it. Zotero file synchronization feature is very useful for this. However, the question is, how to access the PDF attachment files via computer without Zotero inside it? This is because, unfortunately, the use of Zotero in my institution is still very minimal. At least according to my observations. Some examples of use cases:

1. While I was discussing with my professor, I would like to show that I have read some journals. However, the only media available at that time was the professor's computer.

2. When discussing with colleagues in the computer lab, there are times when we need to refer to an article of research that has been done. The media at that time just computer in lab. No Zotero inside it.

Fortunately, the Internet connection can be found in such places. Based on the results of previous posts read (thanks to all), some solutions that can be tried:
1. Sending attachments to Dropbox via Zotfile.
Pros: Attachments can be arranged according to the collection.
Cons: Must be done manually

2. Create symlinks in the Dropbox folder to the Zotero storage directory.
Pros: Automatically available in Dropbox folder.
Disadvantages: Can not arranged based on collection folder (?)

3. Put an attachment in the Dropbox folder, then create a link to the Zotero.
Pros and cons: same as no.2.

Of all the alternatives, which option is best about? Of course there are other options which is offline method, like storing in flashdisk, but what would like to discuss today is online method.

Just it. Sorry for the mistakes. Thank you for all for the helps.
  • 4. You can use Zotero File Sync and access files from your library at zotero.org (doesn't require any installation)

    5. You can use Zotfile to automatically move files to Dropbox. While Zotfile allows for some folder structure when moving automatically, it _won't_ do collections.
  • Well, thank you, Mr. Adamsmith.

For number 4, it seems to be the best option to date! Because files can be arranged based on the collection and easily accessible.
For number 5, is it necessary to change the "Linked Attachment Base Directory" in the Zotero preferences as well? So I can access that files on other Zotero installation.

    Thank you.

typically yes. I.e. unless the filepath to your dropbox folder is exactly the same on all of your computers, which is pretty unlikely (and impossible once you have different operating systems).
  • I see.

    Thanks again.
