Create link for automatic dowload of reference to zotero

Hi,

I am a fairly new user of Zotero in an academic/research context (and it is wonderful).

My question is this: I often have a need to share references on my research blogs with colleagues and students. In the past I have simply done this the old fashion way (ie. written text). However, as a few students are starting to use Z for research projects and so on, I was wondering if it is possible to create a link on my sites that allows readers to click and then directly download the citation information (and possibly the PDF where there are no copyright issues) directly into their Z libraries from my site. In other words, I add the reference information and PDF link to the code behind the citation, and users click and it is directly downloaded to their respective libraries.

I hope this makes sense and my apologies if this is the wrong category or if there have been earlier discussions about this or similar issues.

Thanks
Mick
  • Zotero can read COinS that are embedded in any webpage. If you are using WordPress, Peter Binkley's plugin will generate them for you. If you are using some other blogging software, you can possibly make a plugin or make sure that it excepts HTML spans & paste them in from zotero or another COinS generator or can link to some other webapp or static page that Zotero can scrape.
  • HTML bibliographies generated via Zotero will also include COinS for the included references automatically.

Automatic PDF downloads aren't supported by COinS, but there's been talk of deciding on some extension to COinS to support that.
  • Thanks for your replies. For anyone else looking for this I found:

to be quite helpful for my purposes, at least without using the wordpress plugin.
