batch tagging?

I'm trying to replace my growing set of collections with tags. I would like to select a set of references and add a tag to all of them at the same time. is there any way to do this?

    Sure thing. Set the tag on one item using the "Tags" tab atop the right pane in the Zotero UI. The tag will appear in the tags selector in the lower left: select all of the items in the collection, drag them to the tag, and drop. The tag will be set on all of the items.
