Transferring Zotero to new PC
Hi,
I had to re-install windows 7 (for another reason) and read all the documentation with regards to backing up and transferring zotero. What I was expecting to have to do is copy the 'profiles' folder in AppData>Local>Zotero>zotero>profiles and everything work where all my 500+ linked documents all appeared correctly in zotero.
The problem is that the folder structure and name are completely different in the new zotero I have installed as below:
- the folder in profiles is now called z0ea6muh.default opposed to yd5strau.default
- the folders in the new profiles is just cache, startCache and a file _CACHE_CLEAN_ the older folder also contained a folder zotero plus a lot of other files.
Please help as I am desperate to get it working and don't want to have to re-link all the files.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Best wishes
Matthew

Upgrade Storage
"open the Zotero preferences under the Actions ('gear' icon) menu and click “Show data directory” in the Advanced tab."

I think it should not be in "AppData>Local>Zotero>zotero>profiles" as you wrote
but rather in C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Zotero\Profiles\randomstring\zotero (that's what the documentation says)
or C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Zotero\Zotero\Profiles\randomstring (that's how it is for me).
If you copy the **content** of your old yd5strau.default (yd5strau is a random string) folder into the new randomstring folder, it should work.
Be sure to keep your backup.
Thanks for trying to help

Did you add your files as links, not copies ? Cf. http://www.zotero.org/support/attaching_files#file_copies_and_links ?
By manually re-link my files. I was linking them via right click on each one and attaching a file as I have locate the files in a specific place on our server.
