System Requirements for Standalone 4.0.8 with Windows XP
I have a large database (> 1000 items) and:
MS Windows XP Ser Pack 3
Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 Ghz
2 Gig Ram
This computer isn't really fast enough(?) to run Zotero 4.0.8. I have intermittent problems where:
* Standalone goes "busy"
* CPU pegged at 100% utilization by Zotero.exe
* Physical memory available starts to continuously drop
* Page file use keeps increasing
* Not downloading or doing anything else when this happens.
I assume that when JavaScript starts doing garbage collection that my system isn't fast enough to keep up.
After a couple of minutes, I kill the Zotero using Windows Task Manager. This has seemed to caused problems when I crashed Zotero while it was building some index files. The attachments got scrambled and I assume crashing Zotero with task manager was the reason.
If I am creating Tags or moving small number of items to collections, I seem to be able to kill Zotero without shooting myself in the foot.
---------------
Anybody else notice this problem?
Any way to work around this?
The obvious solution is a faster machine. I do have a new computer that I need to set setup. My "work around" for now has been to start/stop Zotero frequently to prevent building up enough garbage to force garbage collection.
