I'm having trouble Highlighting

Hello. I'm new to Zotero and learning it trial-and-error. I'm interested in using the Highlighting feature that is shown in the demos. For example, when reading an article on JSTOR through a university database, I'd like to highlight text and insert it into notes. However, when I try this, my mouse merely drags the whole page as an image. I am using a Mac with OS 10.4.11, a Mighty Mouse, and Firefox 2.0.0.14. Is there a preference I need to set properly? I've also tried the same thing using the Highlighting tool when it takes a screenshot--no luck.
  • There are two problems in what you have described. First you can only highlight text on archived pages, second you can only use the highlighting and annotation features with HTML documents.

Now, if you download the PDF, which you can do automatically by setting the "Automatically Attach Associated PDFs and Other Files When Saving Items" preference you should be able to download the PDF. Once downloaded you can then view it through Preview or Adobe Acrobat where you should be able to copy the text. With that noted, remember that the text you can copy from JSTOR is far from perfect. It is primarily there for search purposes. It might be a better idea to type up quotations.
