Find & Replace using "saved search"

Does this old ticket for tags apply to data as well?

https://www.zotero.org/trac/ticket/364

For example in items that I imported from Firefox, language was specified as "En", "eng" and "English".

I'd like to have a Find & Replace function using a saved search

Filter named "Language(Eng)"
"Language - "is" - "Eng"

Find & replace
"Saved Search" - "is" - "Language(Eng)"
Replace "Langauge" with "English"

Of course if the replacement field that is chosen only allows certain values, then I should get a drop down list instead of a text box.
  • The "rub" to me is that I'd want to see the "Language" column before I did the find and replace. Hence the reason for a "Saved Search."

If the "Advanced Search" window could display the language column as well, then the code for the "Replace" window dialogue could be made from the "Advanced Search" dialogue code.
  • that ticket is a general ticket, the tag part was implemented. Batch editing (i.e. some version of search&replace) is tentatively planned for 4.2 but may have to pushed back one version still.
I don't think the exact lay-out has been discussed yet

  • Adam, thanks for the update.

I hadn't seen the improvement list. Thanks for that link too.
  • Well, for my two cents, I'd fix the "Advanced Search" display first. See:

    https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/29543

Then I'd reuse the "Advanced Search" code and add a line in the display window to replace a single field. That would make a simple but effective macro.

This would thus also allow you to use a "Saved Search" which the original suggestion in this thread.
