CItations not being saved to Zotero standalone

Apologies if this is a repetition but I need help and can't sift through the 1000 odd posts that are up.

While Firefox tells me that my citations are being saved, these citations not appearing in Zotero standalone. This happened quite suddenly.. it was working just fine until a couple of days ago. Also, to notw I still have at least half my storage space available
  • Are you saving using the connector mode in Firefox, or via the full client mode? Do the citations appear in your online library? Is Zotero Standalone fully synced?
  • I periodically hit the sync button on the Zotero and it appears to be set up for automatic syncing

I am not sure about the saving mode - in fact I'm not sure I know how to set up.. Like I said I'm not aware that I changed anything in my settings and things seemed to be working fine until they just stopped.
  • Open Firefox and Zotero Standalone. Click on the Zotero icon (bottom right) in Firefox. If Zotero Standalone pops up, then you are using connector mode. If a Zotero pane in Firefox opens up, then you are using Zotero for Firefox on its own.

In the latter case, you are saving items to Zotero for Firefox, which would then have to sync with zotero.org, and then Zotero Standalone can sync with zotero.org to retrieve the new items (it's a waste of bandwidth and space). You may want to change the Zotero data directory in Zotero Standalone to point to the Zotero data directory of Zotero for Firefox: http://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data This way you are not duplicating content on your computer and everything syncs once and appears instantaneously.
  • I've got the same problem since installing Zotero Standalone 4.0.8: the book / article / etc. icon does appear in my Firefox (20.0.1), and when I click it I have the dialogue box telling me it's being save to My Library. But when I use Zotero standalone the item hasn't appeared.

I've installed Zotero 4 Standalone, and the Firefox extension, and the Windows extension; I've also restarted the computer.

One other comment: the Zotero icon no longer appears in the bottom right corner of Firefox.
  • Ok, update: I've found out how to get hold of the status bar in Firefox (ctrl /), and when I click the returned zotero icon, I see that the items i've been trying to import have arrived there, not in my zotero standalone (where the last three years of items are).

In other words, I seem to be running two versions of Zotero, which aren't communicating with each other. Any suggestions to resolve this would be gratefully appreciated, as ever.
  • Ok--issue now seems resolved. The Firefox-based version of Zotero needed my username and password and is now synching, but it seems to do so more slowly than previously. Is information taking a roundabout route: from Ff to Zotero-Ff to Zotero standalone?

Yes. See my post above. I.e.

If you have sync'ed Zotero Firefox and Zotero Standalone, then it doesn't really matter which data directory you point to the other one. I.e. you can point Zotero Standalone to Zotero for Firefox or vice versa.
  • Thank you for the response, Aurimas. All now working perfectly.
  • Thank you both.. thinks are working (for now!)
