"There was an error starting Zotero"

I have Firefox 20.0.1 and I recently noticed that my Zotero icon had disappeared from the bottom of my Firefox page. I checked it in the Add-ons and everything was set correctly. I closed and reopened Firefox: no change. I then shut the computer down and reopened Firefox: no change. If I click on Zotero in the Tools menu, I get the message "There was an error starting Zotero" with no further information. What can I do? I saw a similar posting but it was from a much earlier version of Firefox.

    most likely you just need to updated your Zotero version from zotero.org/download
