I selected APA style as the style I want my references in but it is not giving me APA style

Hello,

I am using the zotero plug in for word to try to write a paper. Whenever I go to insert a reference it does not insert it correctly in APA style, instead inserting it in parentheses with just the first author's name comma and the year. Here is an example (Stuart, 2004) when it should be (Stuart and Brice-Baker 2004). Can someone tell me what is happening and how to fix it?

Thanks!
  • You're wrong about APA style, which should place a comma between year and authors, as Zotero does, see e.g. here: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/03/ . (FWIW it should also use ampersand (&), not "and" between two authors).

The second author is probably just missing in your Zotero data - look at the item in Zotero. My guess would be that either Brice-Baker isn't there at all, or s/he's a "contributor".
  • Okay so besides the fact that I was wrong about the style why isn't it inserting the names even when I added them to zotero manually. Zotero instead inserts first author et al. even if it is the first time I am referencing that particular reference.
  • Ps. Thank you.
  • What's the reference you're entering? How many authors does it have? For the first reference, APA uses et al for citations with 6 authors or more.
  • It only has 3 authors.
  • And you've tried inserting it in a new document? Zotero's APA style definitely prints up to five authors for the first citation of an item, just re-tested this.
