Word plugin downloaded but no Z in word since upgrading to 4.0

Hi,

I have followed the troubleshooting steps around looking at reinstalling the word plugin, but since I upgraded to 4.0 my zotero no longer links to my word?

Please could you give me some advice on what I can do to fix the problem as I was happily using Zotero up until yesterday?

    Which Word version and OS? And what's the problem exactly? You don't have any icons? You have icons, but they don't do anything when you click them? What _exactly_ have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting?
    Include as much detail as possible when reporting problems, we'll be able to help you much faster.

    Apologies. I have no icon appearing in word at all anymore. However, when I reinstall the plugin it says that it has successfully installed. I have tried that as the troubleshooting option from the website.I am using word 2007.

    Hi,

    Thank you for the suggestion - it seemed after much installing and re-installing and downloading, to only work when I downloaded another version of firefox?!? I'm back to having it working fine now after a week of trying.

    I have been having same problem with Zotero Standalone. Tearing my hair out.

    I followed the 'manual install' instructions, but this made no difference. If I manually load the plugin Zotero.dot I can open a blank Word document with the add-in available, but I can't then open any older docs without the plugin disappearing.

    I am using Microsoft Word Professional 2010 Plus on Windows 7

    I don't really know what could be causing this - while there have been a couple of Word problems I don't think we've seen icons disappear in old documents but appear in new ones.
    Start by providing an error report after trying to re-install Word components from the "Cite" tab of the Zotero preferences.

    That just means therourke is loading the .dot file directly, which is never the right thing to do. If the .dot file is in the right place (according to the path displayed in the Templates and Add-ins window) and is enabled in that window, it should load when Word is started.

    It's the only way I can get it to work. I reinstalled Word and that made no difference, I rolled back to a previous Zotero and that made no difference. I can't send an error report because Zotero isn't loading into word at all (unless I manually boot it).

    The error I get (Report ID: 132965247) seems unrelated to Word:

    [JavaScript Error: "TypeError: temp is null" {file: "chrome://global/content/bindings/preferences.xml" line: 1172}]

    So what exactly happens when you click "install Word plugin" from the cite tab of the Zotero preferences?

    It installs into the STARTUP folder just fine. I've sat and watched it pop up in that folder once I click the button.

    Word just won't load it automatically on startup, UNLESS I previously manually loaded it (thus opening a fresh document). If I save the manually loaded add in document, and load it again later the add in loads without me having to manually open it.

    And you're looking at the add-ins tab, right?

    The add-ins tab doesn't load unless I manually load the Zotero.dot from C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP (Windows 7)

    and is it listed and enabled under File --> Options --> Add-ins

    no idea - not something that Zotero would do, obviously, might be a Word security setting or so.
